Do you want to take your riding to the next level – what about competing in road races? British Cycling has an excellent introduction that explains what you need to do. Closed circuit racing offers a safe, but challenging introduction, with races usually lasting around an hour. They can be fast and furious but are great fun and let you learn how to ride at race speed in a bunch. Open road events are held on marshalled public roads with motor escorts front and back and comprising one or more laps. Of course, if you and your club mates race together team tactics might give you and Alton CC a winning advantage! if you’re in the veteran age group (40 years plus) the LVRC organises races by age group – but that doesn’t mean the racing is easy! To find out about races in our area have a look at the British Cycling events list or for age banded races have a look at these LVRC events
