About our rides

We have three ride groups to suit varying abilities: A Club Group, a Mid-Paced Group and a Fast Group. No riders are dropped or left behind on any ride. The club rides average between 13 to 15mph, depending upon terrain and cover 45 to 50 miles. The mid-paced and fast rides both cover about 50 miles with average speeds of about 15mph and 18mph respectively.

The Club Group is a mixture of experienced riders and anyone new to cycling. The aim of the group is to promote both the etiquette and the advantages of group riding. During the summer months rides may occasionally be longer than 45 to 50 miles. These are identified by a * the ride leader can be contacted for route details. The group rides may not always go to the mid / fast group café but there will always be a coffee stop!

All rides on a Sunday, unless otherwise stated, leave from The Butts, Alton at 09.00. We have a WhatsApp group that keeps riders up to date on our rides. Get in touch with Becci using the Contact page to be added to the group.

Alton Cycling Club and Covid-19

All Alton CC group cycling activities take place in accordance with current UK Government regulations and British Cycling guidance which is available here

British Cycling have published information on how to remain safe when cycling during the Covid-19 pandemic. Alton CC guidance continues to limit the size of each group to twelve riders for safety reasons.

Rides are still subject to Covid mitigation measures, including: test and trace protocols, one metre social distancing while riding, two metre social distancing while not riding, and guidance covering hygiene, equipment sharing and self-sufficiency. More details on this can be found in this British Cycling document.

Group sizes: A new group should be formed once a ride group has twelve members. Riders should avoid congregating at café stops in large groups and follow Government guidance on social distancing. Please make sure you read and follow British Cycling’s latest guidance.
