2009 Championship - Held in 2010!

For various reasons our club track championships were delayed and not run off
until our January session at Calshot.

With Olympic track cyclist, Harry Jackson, in charge of proceedings our championships got underway with a Flying Start One Lap Time Trial. Malcolm Rogers produced the fastest time for this discipline followed by Dan Montgomerie and Andy Watson. Dan, who claims not to be a 'sprinter' was first across the line in the  Five Lap Scratch Sprint event just inches ahead of Malcolm with Andy in third spot.

In the 5km Scratch Event Andy and Dan managed to breakaway from Malcolm who despite a hard chase could not make contact. Andy showed fine staying power to win this event with Dan second and Malcom third.

Going into the final event, a 1,000 Metres Standing Start Time Trial, Dan was leading with 7 points, Malcolm in second spot with 6 points and Andy in third place with 5 points. There was a real possibility that we could have had a three way tie ! However, Malcolm with a huge effort managed to beat Dan by 3.02 seconds, but Dan had only 0.16 seconds in hand over Andy.

When the points were totalled from all four events we had both Dan and Malcolm equal on 9 points. On a 'count back' the Championship was awarded to Malcolm who had won two events to Dan's one victory. All three riders are to be congratulated for putting up a really good show.
